Seven SF Glens Evolution players have been selected to Olympic Development Program pool!10/25/2016
Seven San Francisco Glens-Evolution Boys Players Selected for Olympic Development Program Congratulations to Eamonn Kenny, Ruben Rathje, Luke Mitchell, Zach Thomas, Kol Bassuk, Barry Cahalane and Takumi Elbert who have been selected to the 2016-2017 Northern California Olympic Development Program (ODP) pool. After a lengthy tryouts with over 100 boys in each age group in Ripon, CA. This is a great achievement by the boys and for the club to have players from the Boys 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004 team, selected. The US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (ODP) was formed in 1977 to identify a pool of players in each age group from which a National Team will be selected for international competition. Learn about ODP program, click here. Congratulations to all of you! GO SFGE! We believe SF Glens Evolution offers something unique to San Francisco youth players and families: a club that looks after a player through his or her entire development path; a club that offers the highest number of licensed coaches a club that opens the doors to top playing opportunities here and abroad; and a club where everyone has a chance to participate regardless of playing level and socioeconomic status. Dear all, We hope you are having a great Summer and are just about eager to get started with the soccer season. In the last couple of months the Club has been working hard. In fact, we have completed the integration phase between SF Glens and Evolution FC, and all teams are now merged. This message is to formally announce to all players and families of SFGE that theGoalkeeper Academy program is launching in its full format for Fall 2016. We are kindly asking all parents of a boy or girl born in 2008 who has expressed interest in playing the position, or who simply want to try, to reply back to this message. We need those names to organize classes, coaches and practices. All players who joined the Spring Season have already received a separate message. If you are one of them and have not seen a message from us, please speak up and we’ll fix it. If you have not joined the program in the Spring, but wish to do it now, please send us your name with the year of birth and the name of the team. Over the past few weeks we have been busy further developing the content of the program, adjusting to the learnings from the Spring Season and factoring in the comments many of you shared with us. We will continue to learn and improve as we run it, but we feel we already have the best and most complete GK program in San Francisco, absolutely comparable to what the top Bay Area Clubs offer. SFGE takes GK Development very seriously. We are asking our players to reciprocate by committing to the program. We are asking them and their parents, in this order, to commit to join practices, to be on time, to make this training a priority and to focus their energies on their improvement. On our end, we have a line up of experienced, USSF or CYSA licenced coaches, who also played the position and a methodology that is aligned to the best soccer schools. We’ll make it a fun environment and age appropriate so learning is maximized. There is no additional charge for this program for Competitive Players as it is included in the yearly fee. We also plan to offer specialized clinics and international camps. These programs will be at a charge but not mandatory, and we’ll honor the Club objective of offering the best quality soccer at the most affordable price. We do not want cost to be a reason for not joining for anyone. Finally, I am happy to announce Nemanja Colovic has accepted to be the Director of the GK Academy Program starting immediately, and therefore he will take over from me in driving the program to its next phase. Nemanja was one of the coaches in the Spring program, so he is very familiar with the Club and with what we are trying to achieve. His curriculum and experience give us a great lead for the program. Nemanja and I will be operating jointly until the end of August. Please include him in your communications. His email address is nemanja@sfge.org Once again, parents of 2008 boys or girls, please let us know if you son or daughter is interested in joining the program for the Fall. It is fine if it is tentative. You will have 2 weeks to confirm or cancel. Go SF Glens Evolution! Tradition. Community. Excellence.San Francisco’s BEST SUMMER SOCCER CAMP is back! SF Glens Evolution will be hosting FOUR weeks of summer camps throughout June and August for children between the ages of 4-13. Our camps provide action-packed fun and tons of soccer, and are an ideal way to keep your kids active and playing soccer this summer. Camps are open to every level of play: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. For beginners, our experienced coaching staff will lead activities and exercises to teach the basic techniques that are the foundation of the game. For our more advanced campers, we will tailor specific sessions that further technical ability and promote tactical (game play) understanding. Campers will always be grouped based on age and playing level. All of our camp coaches are licensed, and include our Director of Player Development Shaun Ramsden (USSF A license); and Club Director of Coaching Mike McNeill (UEFA B License); as well as our most recent addition to the coaching staff, Mike Keller, the head coach of NCAA II side Academy of Art Men's Soccer. In addition, we will also have a designated goalkeeper coach at each of this summer's camps. Each morning, our goalkeepers will work closely with this coach in a specialized training environment that teaches all aspects of the position. After lunch, goalkeepers will then join back in with their appropriate groups for the afternoon session. Our Glens Evolution summer camps offer affordable prices and many different pick up and drop off options to provide you as much convenience as possible. We are also pleased to provide a sibling discount for families with more than one camper. You may email Benkay at sfglensbenkay@gmail.com to receive a promotion code for this discount. And, at the end of the week, each camper leaves with a soccer ball and t-shirt! This year, our June camps will be held at West Sunset playgrounds and our August camps will run at the new Beach Chalet soccer fields. All camps run from 9am - 3pm and dates are as follows:
Please see our Summer Camp page for more information and details.
I want to thank all teams that participated and came to San Francisco for a great weekend of soccer! We had 257 teams, 7 locations and 35 Champions crowned. I saw many happy faces on the players. The quality of the competition was very good and in most cases was very appropriate for each level.
We really want to see the teams back every year as we learn from challenges that we discover or surface from your insightful feedback so that we can continue to create a great experience for your team and club. Please send us your email with comment at info@sfglensevolution.org or directly to our tournament staff at evolutioncup@evolutionfc.org . Also, please know that we have a small lost and found box that has some items that may have been lost. If you lost something, please send us an email and we can check to see if it is yours. In addition, we have other fantastic tournaments coming up that we hope to see you at: 1) The Golden Gate International
2) The Kevin Maguire Celtic Cup
We really appreciate you choosing our tournaments, we know you have choices and we hope to have you back year after year! Thank you for making the San Francisco Evolution Cup 2016 a huge success! We expect mostly local teams to show up and help us get some of this completed before the games begin. ALL other teams who do not check in on Friday will check in at the Field where they play their 1st game. Teams should arrive a minimum of 1 hour before the first game on Saturday. Only the Manager or coach is needed with the passes and roster (US CLUB or CYSA Goldenrod, or AYSO). Well, if you have ever been to San Francisco....never go anywhere without a jacket handy- it is known to get cold and windy rather quickly. 4) Things to know about the facility you are at: Crocker Amazon: 5 artificial turf fields which has 2 parking lots which fill up fast! Please avoid parking on the dirt which is super tempting as it looks safe and legal...but it is NOT! You will get a ticket and never want to come back. Food at this location is served by the building which has a walk up window and the specialty served here are Papusas (yum). Service here is sometimes slow so allow for time or you may be frustrated. Also, be mindful that you are in a big city and keep an eye on all of your items. Do not leave cell phones, etc unattended. This location also has random people who walk around and recycle your water bottles- they are not tournament staff, but have become part of the landscape at this location. South Sunset: 3 smaller artificial turf fields near the zoo on 41st Ave & Wawona Street. Parents will watch the games from the outer sidelines of field 1 and 3 and squeeze in on field 2. No food will be served at this location, but one of our tournament sponsors is located around the corner: Java Beach> A great place to order coffee and bagels in the morning to gourmet signature sandwiches. West Sunset: 2 Grass Fields. No food located here, but you will have a great view of the ocean on a sunny day! Beach Chalet: 8 smaller fields artificial turf. Polo Fields: 6 Full size Grass Fields. Be careful where you park as this place is hard to tell if it is illegal or not? You should be ok parking around the complex, but stay off grass areas which will certainly land you a ticket. This complex has 2 main tunnel entrances on the south and North sides, but is also accessible from the west side. Here you will have A Fine Design (Tournament Merchandise), Food, Smoothies, etc. Treasure Island: We are excited to host for the 1st time at this location! 3 Grass Fields. General Club News With the current season drawing to a close, our teams within the club are looking for a strong end to the campaign. A special mention must go to our SFGE ’03 Black boys team that currently sits atop of the NorCal Premier Division West. With a stalwart defense that has conceded just six goals this term, the team has put together an extremely impressive 100% record over the season. With just two games remaining, there is a five point gap between them and second place Juventus SC. We would like to send our best wishes to all of our teams and players for the remainder of the season and we hope you enjoy the final practices and games. We apologize for delay in following up to questions and concerns related to last Wednesday’s SFYS Annual General Meeting (AGM) as, on Saturday, we received communication from the President and Secretary of SFYS’s Board of Directors that they seek to nullify that evening’s election. We strongly object to this course of action and are presently reviewing all of our options. Notwithstanding, we feel it’s important to share with parents and members the position that SF Glens Evolution took last Wednesday night, some of the behaviors we observed at the AGM meeting, the process for a vote count (pending a proper resolution to the above), as well as our goals with this initiative. First, we want to address a question some of you raised. Our number one concern is to ensure that the Spring Soccer Season will continue as planned, and not be affected by our collective work to create a more transparent, ethical, and fair system for all in San Francisco Youth soccer. We will be playing this spring and our kids will continue to enjoy this great game. We want to thank all the people who helped us before, during, and after the AGM. We also want to thank the candidates who agreed to put their name on the slate in order to promote a healthy change within San Francisco Youth Soccer. And we want to thank those of you who reached out and supported our intentions and actions. We have not heard any negative comments so far; yet, we realize, as a large community, some disagreements are expected. We want to say we respect the opinion of those members, as well. We have received many questions related to the final vote count. Unfortunately, it is not a simple answer. At the end of the voting last Wednesday night it became evident the process was going to be long and arduous, so a decision was made to just get a count of how many ballots were actually cast. The result of that count showed that 314 ballots had been submitted, characterized as follows:
Hence, a correct counting of the 178 yellow ballots is absolutely critical to determine how many votes each candidate received and ultimately decide who the SFYS Directors will be. Just to be on the safe side, one of the members videotaped the count. On Wednesday night, we were concerned with the efforts of some to control, influence, and derail the initiative of the Clubs and even directly attack directors of some of the Clubs that joined the initiative. The President properly addressed the problem. We accept disagreements as part of a democratic process, but it is inappropriate for any of the representatives of SFYS management, who has fiduciary responsibility in front of all members, to so forcefully side with any of the parties. We have drafted a letter that will be sent a letter to SFYS President voicing our concerns. And we will inform our members as soon as we know the final results of the February 24th vote. Many of you may be wondering why the Club, along with other allied clubs, have taken the positions we have and offered an alternate Board of Directors. We also know that many are curious about what comes next, regardless of when a final vote count may come and what those related results may be. SF Glens Evolution and the other SF Clubs essentially want five things: 1) Rules and regulations that is fair to and equal for all parties involved. We want rules and regulations that are not twisted and adjusted to favor one particular club or two. Each Club has an important responsibility to its players, their families and its members to fulfill service obligations. When there is no clarity and no respect for rules, a Club cannot fulfill these responsibilities, and ultimately kids and families are adversely affected. 2) A fair and open process for field assignment. Fields are an issue in San Francisco and field availability is critical for any club. All understand that we will never have as much access to public fields as we desire. Yet, it’s hard to accept that the same one club gets better access and choice, season after season, while the assignment process is conducted through “secret raffles” and subject to club/team penalties handed out without due process or objective review. Today, certain teams do not get more than one practice a week, and that one practice is on a quarter pitch. Why does another club get three practices a week, on half fields, and at the most convenient hours? This incongruity puts hundreds of kids at a disadvantage and is not in the spirit of sharing publically funded park space. 3) A youth league that drives many Clubs to develop elite players as opposed to driving players to just one elite club. It is unacceptable that the SFYS website is populated by a multitude of direct and indirect advertisements for one club. SFYS is there to serve the entire youth soccer community. There should be promotion of no clubs or all clubs, equally. SFGE is lucky because our size helps us, but other smaller clubs need proper and fair visibility to continue to exist. We support the positions of these clubs. We want other clubs to be successful because we know it creates positive and fair competition, which is good for our kids, community, and youth soccer generally. And we desire for there to be elite soccer training opportunities—with top coaches and reasonable prices for all types of families—at many clubs throughout San Francisco and with equal and unbiased support from SFYS. 4) A League that is fair to both Competitive and Recreational players. SFGE is probably the Club most passionate about this point. We have nearly equal numbers in our recreational and competitive programs. We care about all our players, and we want to make usre that all of them have the opportunity to play according to their level of commitment. 5) Open and transparent management with a code of ethical conduct. We seek new standards of transparency within SFYS in order for all members to understand what is happening at all levels. Our goal would be to see Directors adhere to a clear and stated code of ethical conduct that we'd look to help establish within SFYS in the upcoming year. Please understand that SF Glens Evolution and the other Clubs’ commitment to the above does not stop with our initiative at the AGM last week. If we will end up having Directors on the SFYS Board, we will work with and through them to push for changes that benefit youth soccer in San Francisco. If not, we will continue to push in every way we can, during the year and into next year’s AGM, if we have to. This is our commitment to you. Already we are seeing positive outcomes from our work. Our AGM initiative has brought together Clubs that were previously not working closely with one another, and we are now united under one common front and with a common goal—youth soccer programs that truly benefit all the soccer players within San Francisco. We are also very proud of another result (and, sadly, not a small given so much frustration). After 5 years of being forced to beg for fields outside San Francisco after being denied ones close to home for arbitrary and ridiculous reasons, SF Park & Rec finally awarded our U14 Girls team a field permit in San Francisco, which will start with this Spring Season. We could not be happier for those girls and their families. Please feel free to share with us your thoughts and provide us with your feedback. We are passionate and resolute, yet far from perfect, and we know that listening to the members of our community is the best way for us to keep improving things for all the kids and families that enjoy soccer in San Francisco. Sincerely, SF Glens Evolution SF Glens Evolution are thrilled to announce that our Club Partner, Celtic Football Club of Glasgow Scotland will be sending their International Academy Manager to San Francisco.
