Fall 2019-Winer 2020-Spring 2020 Program

GOALKEEPER ATHLETIC READINESS

The requirements placed on the goalkeeper are unique, with components of both fitness and athleticism playing critical roles at all ages. Fitness training for the GK starts with injury resistance and resilience as the primary concern. Second is the development of athleticism and performance, with a long-term objective of increasing ability and strength of movement.

SFGE has partnered with a specialist organization, Murray Athletic Development (MAD), that has years of experience in the field of youth athlete development and has designed with us a program specific for SFGE goalkeepers.

In partnership with SFGE, MAD offers several options for athletic development and maintenance throughout the year, both in Season and in pre-Season.
The pre-Season program is flexible to adapt to the schedule and availably of players, and typically works with a 2 workouts per week cadence.
For those players who either need or wish to keep working during the soccer Season, MAD recommends a 1 work out per week.

MAD is offering special fees to all SFGE players. While there is no real age limit, athletic fitness work is recommended to players born in 2009 or earlier.
If interested, please click on the link to the MAD site and follow the instructions. Link: https://murray-athletic-development.sportngin.com/register/form/433336803

FALL 2019 SEASON PRACTICE

SIGN-UP TO FALL 2019 CLASSES
(Only for new GKs or new SFGE players).

You are welcome to come and check the program at any time. If interested, please send an email to Benkay Kajihara at
benkay@sfge.org
In each soccer season (Fall and Spring), we continue offering 4 level of classes: Yellow, Orange, Red and Blue. Goalkeepers are assigned to a level based on a combination of factors, including age, experience, technical proficiency and athletic ability.
Our focus is player development and our aim is to maximize learning by offering training aligned to the ability of each goalkeeper. We want our GKs to feel challenged, but not overwhelmed. We want them to feel comfortable in making mistakes and learning from them. We want them to work hard, in a fun and age appropriate environment.

For Fall 2019 training starts at the beginning of September. The exact date depends on the specific group/level, but all levels will be in full schedule by not later than September 13th. Regular sessions continue until the end of the Fall season in November. While some players may see their regular season practices continuing into December, for most of our players December and January will be dedicated to off-season work and athletic development.

The classes and methodology reflect our SFGE Goalkeeper Curriculum.
Players born in or after 2008 practice once a week with a GK coach, while competitive players born in or before 2007 will work on a 2 practices per week cadence.
All goalkeepers are expected to practice with their respective teams at least once per week. The Team Head Coach has the option of adjusting the above cadence at any time as he/she sees it fit.

Players that joined the Spring 2019 sessions are automatically pre-registered. Parents/Players will be asked to confirm their attendance to the 2019 Fall Season sessions by reply to a Teamsnap email. The first email will be sent on August 12th.
If there is a change to the email coordinates in Teamsnap, or you need to add the email of a parent, please send a message to Benkay Kajihara at benkay@sfge.org .

If you are new to SFGE Goalkeeper Academy program, please register by clicking SIGN-UP TO FALL 2019 CLASSES and follow the instructions. New registrations will be closed by August 27th.

Schedules, locations and groups are being finalized, and will be frozen on August 30th. At that time players will have one week to commit to Fall attendance and pay the registration fee.
